Finally, our favorite neurosurgeon Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd of Grey’s Anatomy, got the People’s Sexiest Man Alive title, which is quite obvious if you ask me.
The 57 year old actor told PEOPLE, “I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life. It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive.”
In honor of his late mother, the actor founded the Dempsey Center to support cancer patients and care for their loved ones as well.
Dempsey is a family man, his wife, Julian, 57, is a makeup artist, she even has her own clean beauty line. The couple has three kids, Talula, 21 years old, and twins Sullivan and Darvy, 16 years old.
Reacting to how he first heard the news, Dempsey said, “I was completely shocked, and then I started laughing like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid! I’d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position. So my ego is good.”
Talking about how their kids took the news, Dempsey said, “They’re just going to make fun of me and pick on me and figure out every reason why I shouldn’t be. Which is good, they keep me young.”

“I’d been following the movie for years, so I called Michael and said, I want yo discuss being a part of this. That taught me if you really want something, you have to do it yourself.”
“I’ve got the bumper stickers, T-shirts, posters,” Dempsey jokes about his new title win. But does it mean that he’s peaked? “I have peaked many years ago,” Dempsey jokes, “But I’m still here.”
